John asks…
From the readings I’ve done, PRK sounds more safe, but is more painful and takes longer to recover, etc.
Is PRK really 100% error free as opposed to lasik which I’ve heard some horrific stories about?
PRK is not error free. I had and it took about a year to fully recover. It is more of the doctors choice though. I had extremely dry eyes, so I had to have PRK.

Chris asks…
Which Eye Surgery to have?
I’m choosing between two (since I’m not a candidate for Lasik). My options are
1. Verisyse – $4500 per eye all inclusive (follow up exams, touch up Lasik, contact lens etc.) Faster healing time.
2. PRK- $4500 for BOTH eyes all inclusive including follow up exams and touch ups if needed.
Any advice? Anybody have these surgery’s done? Opinions?
Thanks
If your Rx is less than -6.00 then PRK is better. If it is more than -6.00 then Verisyse might be your only current surgical option.
The problem is that this Verisyse lens is actually placed inside the eye. There are no long range studies to show what effect this has on your vision in the future. Some problems now include dislocation of the lens, cataract formation and glaucoma.
This is one that needs a second opinion from another refractive surgeon before going ahead, especially since something disqualified you for lasik.
